The great Galician queens in history

The project "The great Galician queens in history" is a divulgative initiative with the aim of recovering and disseminating the figure of four fundamental women of Galician medieval history: Sancha, Urraca, Xoana and Inés de Castro.

The proposal materialized in the publication of three biographical books and three informative podcasts, bringing to the public a renewed vision of the role of queens in the Kingdom of Galicia and claiming their political, social and cultural relevance.

The initiative is born from the desire to make visible female figures who have traditionally received less attention than male monarchs, offering a rigorous and up-to-date interpretation of medieval Galician history. For this, it counted on the participation of reference specialists such as Simon R. Doubleday, Héitor Picallo Fontes, Carme Varela and Carolina Casal Chico, responsible for the preparation of the different volumes.

The project had an important social and informative dimension. The three books were distributed free of charge through Nós Diario, with a total circulation of 9,000 copies, facilitating access to the contents both to regular readers of the newspaper and to educational centers and libraries.

In addition, three podcasts were produced that made it possible to bring the topic to new audiences and expand the scope of the initiative through accessible digital formats.

The dissemination was carried out through a broad communication campaign that included advertising in the print and digital press, interviews with the authors, continued presence on social networks and specific promotion on the Nós Diario website. This strategy contributed to increase the visibility of the project and to strengthen the knowledge of the Kingdom of Galicia through the stories of these queens.

Together, "The great Galician queens in history" constitutes a cultural proposal that combines historical research, dissemination and a gender perspective to recover the memory of women who played a central role in the political configuration of the Kingdom of Galicia, contributing to enrich and expand the vision of our medieval history.
