The Vestiges is a short film that combines fiction and documentary to spread the word about the medieval remains in the Compostela Cathedral.
Starring actress Melania Cruz and art professor Rocío Sánchez Ameijeiras, the piece highlights the role of women in the heritage of the Cathedral, both in its artistic representation and in its historical legacy.
Under the direction of Rosa Taboada, the film opts for a visual narrative inspired by the documentary The Cave of Forgotten Dreams by Werner Herzog, using minimal lighting and ambient sounds typical of the medieval era to achieve an immersive atmosphere.
The project had the advice of experts such as Anselmo López Carreira, Francisco Prado-Vilar and Ramón Yzquierdo Peiró, as well as in-depth research on the Medieval Kingdom of Galicia and key figures such as Serafín Moralejo Álvarez.
The filming, carried out in night conditions and with a reduced crew, took place in exclusive spaces of the Cathedral, such as the Crypt of the Pórtico da Gloria.
Editing and post-production were carried out by the director herself, guaranteeing artistic and narrative cohesion. The 20-minute play premiered at NUMAX on November 30, 2022.
