In permanent reform: monasticism in medieval Galicia

Monasticism is a piece of singular importance in the study of the Middle Ages in Galicia. The fact that much of what we know of medieval Galicia depends on monastic documentation is, in itself, more than revealing.

Throughout the medieval millennium monasticism goes through various phases and different models. In this contribution we will make a proposal for the periodization of the monastic history of medieval Galicia characterized by continuous changes and permanent reform.
